Dine in the 509

Where to go? What to do? What keeps us in the 509?

Spokane Scones. Bringing the 509 to the 650 and the 831.

Last Christmas, I went home to Redwood City for our three-week long break.  I had to re-tock the kitchen with the breakfast food that I enjoy while I am home, so my mom and I headed to our local grocery store, Key Market.  I always detour to the baking aisle to see all the dangerously delicious cake and bread mixes.  That time, I stumbled across the Sticky Fingers Original Scone mix.  I had never had a scone before, but I know my dad is a huge fan, so I figured they would be a nice morning treat for him.  I whipped up a batch that morning (SO easy- just add water!) and we were all hooked! In fact, we went out and got two more packages later in the day. While I had been preparing them, I took a look at the packing and read that they were from a bakery in Spokane, WA!

I recently went home again for Memorial Day weekend and my mom’s 64th birthday.  We spent most of the weekend at our house in Carmel-by-the-Sea that my mom and her two siblings now have shared ownership over.  As we were packing up to drive down to Carmel, I came across a bag of the mix we had bought in December and added it to the bag of groceries we were bringing with us.  I whipped up a batch of original recipe scones for our first morning in Carmel and they were perfect.  We ate them with our Kurtz Orchard jams sold in at a specialty food store in downtown Carmel.  They were delicious and a nice way to start of the day with the sun shining in on the dining room table.  Our dog was working hard to get her own bite of the scones! Here’s a look at the morning:

Fun, original and delcious jam flavors!

YUM! How good do those look??

Kally wanted one too!

Whether you believe in the old saying “Home is where the heart is,” side more with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in that “Home is whenever I’m with you” or are like my mom and enjoy the kitchen décor that stated “Home is where your mom is”, home is home.  Right now, Spokane is my home and I go home to California.  I am lucky enough to have two places I call home.  In fact, I called a third place home this year when I was living in a pensione in Florence, Italy.  At age 21, I do not know where my next home will be, but I sure do know that I am blessed to have so many places to go home to.  I was able to bring a taste of one home to two of my other homes and bring some of the 509 to the 650 and the 831!

Stay tuned for when I visit Sticky Fingers Bakery in Spokane, WA! For now, see where YOU can get your own package of Sticky Fingers scone mix in the United States:
